Hong Kong take-home pay calculator, 2026/27

Monthly pay after MPF and yearly salaries tax for a single or married employee, from the MPFA and IRD figures for the 2026/27 year of assessment.

12 equal monthly payments and no bonus are assumed. Only the MPF deduction and the basic, married person's and child allowances are applied. Hong Kong employers do not take salaries tax out of the monthly pay: the IRD bills it afterwards, so the tax shown is a yearly amount for the 2026/27 year of assessment.

How this is calculated

Two parts: MPF now, salaries tax afterwards

Your employer takes your share of MPF out of each month's pay. Salaries tax is not taken out of the monthly pay in this calculation: the IRD bills it afterwards, and provisional tax is usually based on the previous year's income. The big number above is the monthly pay that reaches the bank account after MPF. The tables also show the yearly salaries tax and the monthly average once it is set aside. See the salaries tax guide.

MPF

MPFA rules: the employee pays 5% of monthly relevant income from HK$7,100 (below that the employee pays nothing) up to HK$30,000, so at most HK$1,500 a month. The employer pays the same on top. The IRD limits the yearly deduction to HK$18,000. See the MPF guide.

Salaries tax

The tax is the smaller of two amounts: progressive rates (2%, 6%, 10%, 14%, 17% in HK$50,000 bands, the last above HK$200,000) on net chargeable income, which is salary less the MPF deduction less allowances, and 15% on net total income, which is salary less the MPF deduction (16% above HK$5,000,000). Allowances for 2026/27: HK$145,000 basic, HK$290,000 married person's, HK$140,000 for each child.

Not included

Bonuses, deductions other than MPF, allowances other than the three above, joint assessment, provisional tax and its instalments, and any salaries tax reduction. Results can differ from your payslip and tax bill.
