South Africa take-home pay calculator, 2026/27

Monthly pay after PAYE and UIF by age group and medical scheme members, from the SARS figures for the 2026/27 tax year.

12 equal monthly payments and no bonus are assumed. Only the rebates for your age group and the medical scheme fees tax credit are applied. Enter 0 members if you have no medical scheme, 1 for the member alone, 2 for the member and one dependant. The tax year is 1 March 2026 to 28 February 2027.

How this is calculated

Two deductions from the monthly pay: PAYE and UIF

Your employer deducts PAYE (income tax) and your share of UIF from each month's pay. The big number above is the pay that reaches the bank account after both. See the tax tables guide and the UIF guide.

PAYE

The yearly pay is put through the SARS table: 18%, 26%, 31%, 36%, 39%, 41%, 45% in seven bands, the last above R1,878,600. The rebates are then subtracted: R17,820 for everyone, R9,765 more from age 65 and R3,249 more from age 75. The medical scheme fees tax credit (R376 a month for the member, R376 for the first dependant, R254 for each further dependant) comes off next and cannot take the tax below nil. The result divided by 12 is the monthly PAYE.

UIF

The employee pays 1% of monthly pay up to R17,712 a month, so at most R177.12 a month. The employer pays the same on top, which is not taken from your pay.

Not included

Retirement fund contributions, the additional medical expenses credit, bonuses, other income, other deductions and fringe benefits. Results can differ from your payslip and your assessment.
