How this is calculated
The rule
Article 51(2) of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 gives a full-time foreign worker who has completed a year or more of continuous service a benefit worked out on the basic wage: 21 days of wage for each of the first 5 years and 30 days for each year after that. A part of a year counts in proportion once a year is complete (Article 51(3)). Unpaid days of absence do not count as service (Article 51(4)). The total cannot be more than 2 years of wage (Article 51(6)).
Convention used
The day's wage is the monthly basic wage divided by 30, and a year of service is 365 days. The Decree-Law text read gives neither, so results can differ by a day's wage from a payroll that counts months. Service runs from the first day to the last day, both included.
Cap
2 years of basic wage is 24 months of basic wage. It is reached after 25.5 years of service.
Not included
UAE and GCC nationals (pension legislation, Article 51(1)), part-time and other work patterns (Article 52), DIFC, ADGM and other free zones, deductions the employer may make under Article 51(7), and anything the Executive Regulation adds that could not be read. See Sources and rates.
