Go Home Early Kenya is a small set of free calculators for employees: monthly net pay after PAYE, NSSF, SHIF and the Affordable Housing Levy. It is an independent project. It is not run by, endorsed by or connected with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), the Social Health Authority (SHA) or any other government body.

Why this exists

The operator has handled pay, tax and payroll calculations for a small team firsthand. The calculators available gave different numbers for the same inputs and did not say where the numbers came from, so the figures had to be worked out again from the official pages. This site publishes that working, with the source and the check date next to each number.

Rates come from the source

The PAYE bands and the personal relief come from the KRA. The NSSF limits come from the NSSF notice to employers and the SHIF rate from the Social Health Authority. The Sources and rates page lists each value, where it came from and the date it was last checked, and says plainly which values could only be read on secondary guides.

Checked against the tables

The calculations are tested against hand calculations from the published bands and an independent second implementation that agrees to the cent on every test case. The site is not released with a failing test.

Updates

Bands, reliefs and contribution limits can change by Finance Act, gazette notice or court order. When they do, the values and the checked dates are updated together. If you find an error, tell us.
