About

Go Home Early US is a small set of free calculators for employees: take-home pay after federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare and state tax, for 30 states. It is an independent project. It is not run by, endorsed by or connected with the IRS, the Social Security Administration or any state government.

Why this exists

Many paycheck calculators give a result without saying where the rates came from, and two of them can disagree on the same salary. This site publishes the working: the rate, the page it was read from, and the date it was checked, next to each figure.

Rates come from the source

Federal income tax brackets and the standard deduction come from IRS Revenue Procedure 2025-32. Social Security, Medicare and the Additional Medicare Tax come from IRS Publication 15 (2026) and IRS topic pages. State rates come from each state's tax agency. The Sources and rates page lists each value, where it was read and the date it was last checked.

How the calculations are checked

The calculations are tested against figures worked out by hand from the published rates, against bracket edges and the Social Security wage base, and against an independent second implementation written separately that uses the cumulative tax amounts printed in the revenue procedure, compared on hundreds of cases to the cent. No official IRS or state calculator output was available to compare against, and the Sources page says so. The site is not released with a failing test.

What is covered, and what is not

Only states whose 2026 rules could be confirmed on an official page are included. City and county income taxes are not included. The Sources page lists what could not be confirmed.

Updates

Most federal figures change each January. When they do, the values and the checked dates are updated together. If you find an error, tell us.
